James Gonzalez, MPH, FACHE, LNHA

Over the past 40 years, James R. Gonzalez has held executive positions in academic health centers, community hospitals and long-term care facilities in New York and New Jersey. He has served as President and CEO of Broadway House since 1999.

Mr. Gonzalez earned a Bachelor of Science from Northeastern University and a Master of Public Health from the Yale School of Public Health. He has been a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives since 2007, and the NJ Chapter selected him to receive the Distinguished Service Award for his significant contributions to the healthcare industry in 2017. 

In addition to his management of Broadway House, in 2011 Mr. Gonzalez was asked to serve as the interim President/CEO of University Hospital. Two years later, he was appointed CEO of University Hospital and led the facility’s transition from a university-owned facility to a stand-alone, safety net teaching hospital through the merger between University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ and Rutgers University. It was the largest merger of two university systems in the nation’s history.

Mr. Gonzalez also serves on the following boards:

Donnamarie Lynch, MBA MHA, PhD

Mission is important to Donnamarie Lynch, MBA, MHA, PhD. As Chief Operating Officer, she is responsible for the nursing and social services departments at Broadway House for Continuing Care. Dr. Lynch has proven her value to the organization by focusing directly on the needs of our staff members and the residents we serve.

She is a leader who drives the patient care experience to a new level: “Providing quality care is the culture of the organization. A significant number of staff have been here for over 20 years. That speaks to the level of dedication to the residents, and to the mission of the organization.”

Dr. Lynch has earned a Master of Business Administration, as well as a Doctor of Philosophy in Organizational Leadership. In addition, she is pursuing a Master of Healthcare Administration.

Lois Beatty, BSN, RN is known as the “Queen of Quality” at Broadway House for Continuing Care. That’s because she is dedicated to maintaining the high standards for care that keep our residents safe. The Director of Quality & Regulatory Affairs, she came to Broadway House in 1998, drawn to the facility’s mission to provide care for residents with HIV/AIDS and other vulnerable populations. For her dedication to our residents, Ms. Beatty was named the 2021 NJBIZ Healthcare Hero—Nurse of the Year. She says, “Broadway House is cutting edge. We always aim for standards higher than required by local, state, and federal regulations. We advocate and provide care for our residents at the highest level, regardless of their past history or what society may think they deserve.”

Ms. Beatty earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Rutgers College of Nursing, as well as a paralegal degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University and certification as an enterostomal therapist from Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minnesota.

Herbert R. Belisle takes great pride in his role as Consultant—Plant Operations at Broadway House for Continuing Care. He ensures that all aspects of the facility’s plant run smoothly, which is critical to the comfort of our residents and their families—as well as the effectiveness of our clinical care staff. A Broadway House employee since 2013, Mr. Belisle is inspired by the determination of our residents: “As I look back on my life and remember the insignificant issues, disappointments, and complaints, they’re nothing compared to the issues our residents deal with every day. I am proud to be part of this organization, which provides such great service and opportunity to our residents.”

Mr. Belisle attended Brookdale Community College to study business administration and Southern Illinois University for occupational education. He holds the following accreditations and certifications: ECRI (Healthcare Environmental Management), JACHO (Hospital Accreditation and Environment of Care), NFPA Life Safety Code 101, EPA Hazardous Material Incident Response Operations, and OSHA Hazard Communication Standard Trainer.

Every day, Elaine Brown seeks to make a difference in someone’s life. Ms. Brown touches many lives as Director of Nursing at Broadway House, subscribing to a simple guiding principle: “There, but for the grace of God, go I.” Ms. Brown says, “I am impressed with the many people and organizations that deliver the very best care to Broadway House residents struggling with HIV/AIDS. The inspiration comes from within me to do my absolute best when it comes to our residents. At Broadway House, we leave no stone unturned.”

A graduate of Essex County College and Thomas Edison State University, Ms. Brown has worked with the US Army for 15 years as a civilian Health Technician working alongside active duty military men and women in the US and overseas. She was also a Medical Assistant for over 25 years before starting her nursing career, gaining a wealth of knowledge that provides the foundation to make sound changes that will benefit Broadway House residents.

Korvette Hinton-Woods, CSW is a mainstay at Broadway House for Continuing Care. Currently the Director of Activities, Interns & Volunteers, she began working here in 2010. Ms. Hinton-Woods says, “Broadway House has helped me to advance personally and professionally. I decided to work here for an opportunity to connect with and learn from a population that often gets overlooked. What I enjoy most about working at Broadway House is building positive connections with the residents and making their stay significant.”

When Gloria Horton, BA, CSW, CDP, CDVC, came to Broadway House for Continuing Care in 1995, she sought to be of service to the community where she was raised. Since then, she has remained steadfast in upholding the facility’s mission to provide outstanding care to residents of Newark and the surrounding area. Mrs. Horton says, “At Broadway House, all are welcome, regardless of race, gender identity, or socioeconomic status. Our residents remind me through good and bad situations to stay in the fight to make a difference for the next community member who comes through the door.”

Now a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator Intern, Mrs. Horton earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology, with a minor in sociology, from Kean University. She is also a Social Work Field Instructor at Rutgers University.

I only wish he had been able to spend some time here. It would have been a perfect fit for him. Besides the setting, which is beautiful, the atmosphere at Broadway House is very special. It’s a true multidisciplinary team effort to provide caring and respectful treatment to all of our residents.”

For more than 15 years, Rodolfo A. Munera, MD, has provided expert medical care to the residents of Broadway House for Continuing Care. A specialist in infectious diseases and internal medicine, Dr. Munera contributes significant experience to the team at our facility. He says, “Broadway House is a very challenging, interesting, and underserved community. There is a great sense of family here, and we all respect one another. I get a great sense of satisfaction serving our residents, and I am inspired to continue to help them.”

A graduate of La Salle College, Dr. Munera earned a master of science from the University of Libre and a medical degree from the University of Cartagena, all in Colombia. In addition to serving as Medical Director at Broadway House, he is an attending physician at University Hospital in Newark and has a private practice in Clifton.

Mission is important to Lisa M. Papciak, the Director of Marketing and Development at Broadway House for Continuing Care. Before arriving at Broadway House in 2020, Ms. Papciak worked at a high school for talented, underprivileged teens in Newark. She says, “I have always been a person who needs to have purpose in my work. I completely support the mission of Broadway House. Here, it’s all about the people—both staff and residents. Everyone is so warm and welcoming. Despite the challenges our residents face, there is an inner peace and contentment that radiates from them.”
