What a Night!

Gala 2024 celebrated Broadway House and our retiring President and CEO James Gonzalez, MPH, FACHE, LNHA. Best of all, funds raised significantly increased over last year’s event—a big win for Broadway House residents.

The longtime leadership of Mr. Gonzalez, who retired on Sept. 1, brought world-class care to Broadway House residents. Many people—including family, friends, colleagues, and corporate sponsors—turned out to Nanina’s in the Park on Oct. 30 to honor his extraordinary legacy.

During the event, incoming President and CEO Donnamarie Lynch, MBA, MHA, PhD, also presented the 2024 Lifetime Support Award to Assistant Director of Finance Angela Moroney-Cymbaluk. Dr. Lynch said of her colleague, “This year we honor an individual whom we joke holds the purse strings real tight. But in all seriousness, we never have to worry if the lights will be on or if our account has been credited on payday. With her attention to detail and financially responsible decisions, the doors of Broadway House have remained open for the past 29 years. It’s no coincidence that in two months, Angela will celebrate her 29th year of service to Broadway House.”

During Mr. Gonzalez’s 49-year healthcare career, he also served as CEO of University Hospital and held leadership posts with several other organizations. Reflecting on his tenure at Broadway House, Mr. Gonzalez said, “My 25 years at Broadway House became a labor of love for myself and for the team of dedicated individuals with whom I was fortunate to surround myself. Together, we have transformed this program into a nationally recognized facility that consistently maintains high performance ratings, while positively improving the health and enhancing the lives of thousands of patients.”

In addition to Board Chair and Gala Emcee Gary Paul Wright, Dr. Denise Rodgers, and Dr. Rodolfo Munera, speakers at the event included Mr. Gonzalez’s youngest son, Scott Gonzalez, a successful healthcare executive who delivered an emotional tribute to his father: “I saw your commitment, passion, and dedication to do everything you could to make a positive impact in the workplace, the community, and most importantly, the lives of your patients. The amount of people in this room is a testament to the type of person and leader you are. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, if I could build just half the career that you have, I’d be able to call myself successful.”
